Zwigato Release Date OTT
Kapil Sharma’s film Zwigato, directed by Nandita Das, is now streaming on Prime Video, so audiences can watch this heartwarming story at home. The film first hit theaters on March 17, 2023, and while it received critical acclaim, it did not fare well at the box office, earning only Rs. 1.50 crore earned.
Zwigato: Plot & Story
Set in Bhubaneswar, the film tells the story of Manas Singh (Kapil Sharma), a former factory worker struggling with unemployment and financial difficulties. To make ends meet, he takes a job as a food delivery agent for a gig economy service called ‘Zwigato’. As he adjusts to this new role, we’ll see him deal with the pressures of performance metrics and the unpredictable nature of gig work.
Zwigato, by the way, is not related to Zomato or Swiggy! It is a leader in the industry but keeps its workers on a short leash. Annoying alarms go off whenever an order arrives and can be suspended if delivery partners reject more than three orders. Also, there are no clear procedures to handle false allegations against delivery agents. Sounds about right!
Manas’s wife, Pratima (Shahana Goswami), is another main character. To help her husband, she takes on various odd jobs, facing challenges of her own filled with both fear and excitement. Both Shahana and Kapil give strong performances in their respective roles.
The film explores themes of resilience, societal expectations and the search for dignity in work, highlighting the struggle for a better life in modern India. While these themes are interesting and have the potential to touch your heart, the film fails to convey emotions effectively due to poor screenplay and direction.
About an hour into the film, the plot becomes repetitive. It feels more like ‘a day in the life’, lacking clear direction or resolution.
