Khel Khel Mein is a Hindi comedy-drama film to be released in 2024, written and directed by Mudassar Aziz. The film is based on the 2016 Italian film Perfect Strangers and stars Akshay Kumar, Fardeen Khan, Taapsee Pannu, Vaani Kapoor, Amy Virk, Aditya Seal and Pragya Jaiswal in the lead roles.
Akshay Kumar, popularly known as Khiladi Kumar, is back to try his luck at the box office once again. His new film Khel Khel Mein is set to release on 15 August 2024 and has already garnered a buzz. This is because Akshay’s recent films have not done well at the box office. If this film also doesn’t work, it could be a matter of great concern for the actor, as the audience is losing interest in his films.

Fun Wedding Game Gone Wrong
Akshay Kumar plays Rishabh, a plastic surgeon who is married to Vartika (Vaani Kapoor), a writer. At Vartika’s sister’s wedding, Rishabh’s friends and their wives join the celebrations. After a Bollywood-style sangeet, they all decide to play a risky game – reading each other’s phone messages and calls aloud to prove they have no secrets. Sounds like a bad idea? Of course it is! But for the audience, it’s great fun to watch. The story unfolds over a dramatic night before the wedding.
Comedy With a New Twist
Director Mudassar Aziz brings back the old-school Bollywood slapstick comedy, but with a refreshing twist. The film avoids using old jokes about women or glorifying the struggles of men. While there are hints of traditional gender roles – like Rishabh openly flirting with another woman – the film keeps things light and fun without becoming preachy.
This remake of the Italian film Perfect Strangers has a mix of silliness and smart humour. Just when you are about to question logic, a perfectly timed joke wins you over. The dialogues are the highlight of the film. For instance, Taapsee Pannu and Ammy Virk, both named Harpreet, have each other saved in their phones as “Harpreet man” and “Harpreet woman” – a funny yet heartwarming detail.
Another clever joke is about a woman who makes TikTok videos, following which her mother-in-law calls her the “female Gurdas Maan”. Even smaller scenes, such as the one in which Rishabh escapes the airport queue by waving his British passport, add humour and subtly show his dual personality – charming but selfish.
Nostalgic Bollywood Fun
It’s surprising to see clever jokes and layered humour in an Akshay Kumar film, but Khel Khel does that. The characters are quirky – Taapsee’s vivacious Punjabi, Fardeen Khan’s stylish leather jacket, Vaani Kapoor’s glamorous outfits and Pragya Jaiswal’s overly dramatic antidepressant pills, all of them are fun. The comedy never slows down, thanks to the fast-paced story.
The film also pokes fun at how rich people live in their own world, which is far from reality. Though the sound effects and background music are loud and exaggerated, the sharp one-liners make up for it. If you miss the classic slapstick comedies of Bollywood, Khel Khel is a nostalgic film, full of laughter and fun.

FAQs: People Also Ask
Akshay Kumar’s recent film Khel Khel Mein, which is based on Perfect Strangers, did not do well at the box office. However, actor Aditya Seal revealed that the audience thoroughly enjoyed the film’s humour and entertainment.
The film was made on a budget of 100 crores, but it seems like it won’t be able to recover even half of it. Reaching 30 crores is proving to be difficult and the film is now close to ending its journey at the box office. Now it remains to be seen how long Khel Khel Mein stays in the theatres.
Khel Khel Mein doesn’t really impress, and I felt relieved when it finally ended. The story unfolds over a single night, where seven friends party at a wedding. It is a desi version of the 2016 Italian film ‘Perfetti Sconosciuti’, but its plot is quite simple and there isn’t much to it.
