Bougainvillea Review: Amal Neerad’s ‘Bougainvillea’ – A Gripping Psychological Thriller
After the hit Bhishma Parvam in 2022, director Amal Neerad is back with Bougainvillea, exploring the world of psychological thrillers. Starring Kunchko Boban and Jyotirmayi, the film opens with stunning visuals and gradually unfolds a mysterious plot centered around Rithu (played by Jyotirmayi), who constantly paints bougainvillea flowers.
The first part of the script feels a bit slow, as it takes a lot of time to establish the characters. However, the pace picks up in the second half and works well. The introduction of characters and their behavior feels natural with realistic dialogues and interactions. Kunchko Boban’s character could have been developed more, as it lacked depth. Script, Lajo Jose and R.J. Also written by the director. Murugan is decent but could have been stronger.
A Complicated Story with Some Flaws
Based on Lajo Jose’s novel Ruthinte Lokum, the story follows a character suffering from amnesia who becomes part of a police investigation. Aamal Nirad does a great job of creating suspense and keeping the audience engaged, but the second half of the film loses some steam. Even with predictable plot twists, the film stands out thanks to its strong action scenes, smooth editing and creative cinematography.
