Vettaiyan (pronounced /veɪttəjən/), meaning “Hunter,” is a 2024 Tamil language action drama film released. T.J. Directed by Gyanvel and produced by Subaskaran Aliraja’s Laika Productions, the film features Rajinikanth as a senior artist. A police officer accidentally shoots an innocent person during an encounter while investigating the murder of a teacher.
The film has a talented cast, with Amitabh Bachchan in his Tamil debut alongside Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Ritika Singh, Dushara Vijayan, Rohini, Rao Ramesh, Abhirami and Ramesh Thilak.
The film was first announced in March 2023 with the working title Thalaivar 170, celebrating Rajinikanth’s 170th film as the lead actor. The official title was announced in December 2023. Released on October 10, the Tamil film ‘Vettayan’ is directed by TJ Gnanavel and stars Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan. It has earned Rs 124 crore in its first nine days. However, the film’s box office earnings are slowly declining. It is expected to be available on Amazon Prime soon.
Vettaiyan: Movie Plot & Storyline
In this movie, the story shifts from investigating the violent murder of a public school teacher to discussing the need for change in private schools. After a rousing burst of energy, the film becomes more predictable and a bit silly, following the style of older films. Still, the young filmmakers add a fun, cheesy charm that makes it enjoyable.
In “Vettaiyan”, Rajinikanth plays the straightforward role of Superintendent Athyan, a respected “encounter specialist” (or field agent) who possesses the three main qualities of a great cop, described by his tech-savvy partner Cyber ”Battery” Patrick (Fahd ) has been done by Fasil): The Athenians are honest, skilful and brave. True to his character, Rajinikanth catches criminals without hesitation and often reminds us of his motto: “When the hunt is on… the hunt must fall.” While Athiyaan is essentially a murderer, he doesn’t see himself that way until he meets Satyadev (Bachchan), a critical human rights lawyer and veteran judge of the Indian High Court. Their paths take time to come together, as does the overall plot of “Vettaiyan,” which takes shape rather than flows smoothly.
