#MATKA Telugu360 Review:

Matka is a slow paced mass film that stands different from the usual formula, offering a unique story and backdrop that appeal to mass audiences . While the slow pace sometimes makes it feel like a biography, the influence of The Godfather series is… pic.twitter.com/SGOofEq3IX
Analysis
“Matka” refers to a clay vessel used in gambling games where players place cards inside and predict numbers. The game, which was popular in India decades ago, takes its inspiration from the life of Ratan Khatri, a pioneer in popularizing the gambling genre.
Although central to the story, Matka’s gambling barely affects the plot. Outside of a brief 20-minute segment, he plays a minimal role in the story.
The film begins with Vasu’s childhood and follows his rise as a businessman don. The key factor is not revealed until Vasu discovers the matka, introduces it to Vizag and expands it across India.
By the time Vasu is established as the Matka King, the intermission comes, leaving the audience with the feeling that the entire film has already passed due to the slow pace.
The first half is flat, with few exciting moments. The protagonist’s journey to becoming the Matka King lacks depth and emotional connection. After the success of films like KGF, it became common to include references to Indira Gandhi ordering officials to curb the Matka King.
In the second half, a subplot involving Varun Tej’s wife is quickly wrapped up, and the story turns to the familiar revenge arc. However, the plotline seems predictable due to the scene between Varun Tej and Nora Fatehi.
Before the climax, the two songs are played back-to-back, further disrupting the flow of the film and revealing the director’s poor grip on pacing.
While Varun Tej gives a sincere performance, his character lacks the magnetic presence of a true hero. Even the story he tells his daughter about Puli-meka doesn’t leave much of an impact on the overall film. The ending seems formulaic.
Ultimately, Matka presents another well-known story of an anti-hero’s rise to power, a theme we’ve seen many times before. The film’s characterization, director’s handling of the story and the overall flow feel predictable, resulting in a dull and dull experience that moves slowly from start to finish.
