Movie Plot:

Surya (Satyadev) works in Bank of Trust and is in love with Swati (Priya Bhavani Shankar) who works in another bank. One day, Swati makes a big mistake in her job and asks Surya for help. To save him, Surya uses some banking tricks to fix the problem. But this gets him into trouble with a goon named Aadi (Dolly Dhananjaya). Surya now has no option but to pay ₹5 crore to get out of this mess. Who is Adi and how does Surya solve this problem? That’s what the story is about.

Performance:

Satyadev gives a strong performance. Her role as Surya allows her to show romance, action and emotion, which she handles well. Dolly Dhananjaya is decent but doesn’t leave much of an impact due to her poorly written character. Sunil struggles to balance comedy and villainy, which is repeated many times. Satyaraj is okay but not memorable. Sathya got some laughs in the second half. Priya Bhavani Shankar plays her role well by portraying the struggle of a woman trapped in a difficult situation.

Technical:

Director Ishwar Karthik presented an interesting concept about bank fraud using technology. The idea has potential, and the dialogues are well written. The bank setting is also nicely presented. However, the screenplay is overly complicated, with too many unnecessary subplots that make the story difficult to follow.

Ravi Basrur’s songs are forgettable, but his background score is decent and adds tension to the second half. The cinematography is impressive, especially the slow-motion shots and bank visuals. On the negative side, the editing is poor, and the first half has many unnecessary scenes, such as the long introduction of the villain, which could have been avoided.

Analysis:

Movies about banking scams and frauds can be exciting, but they need to be told clearly and simply. Director Ishwar Karthik, known for Penguin, starts the film full of long, confusing scenes that are difficult to follow. Only after this long sequence does the title card appear.

The story connects Sunil and Adi’s characters with a big problem while showcasing Surya’s intelligence in banking and technology. However, while we understand that the Sun is solving problems, the details of how it does so are not clear.

As the movie progresses, it starts to drag. After the first hour, it is clear that the director is adding unnecessary hurdles for Surya, making the story longer than it needs to be.

The second half feels dragged out, with many scenes seeming to be copied from Money Heist. The bank robbery and Surya’s theft from his own bank is watchable but seems too convenient for the story.

The villain, Aadi, does not leave a strong impression, and his character often seems more important than Surya, which distracts from the main focus. Sathyaraj’s subplot is another example of how the movie adds unnecessary scenes that don’t add much to the story.

Verdict:

Zebra starts with a lot of promise and an interesting idea but loses its way due to a messy screenplay and unnecessary length. While there are a few good moments, the overall movie feels convoluted and drawn out. It ends up being a routine thriller rather than a thriller.
