Kalki 2898 AD (Telugu: [kəlkɪ]; onscreen stylized as KΛLKI 2898 – Λ.D) is a 2024 grand Telugu-language epic science fiction film directed by Nag Ashwin and produced by Vajyanthi Movies. is Starring Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Prabhas, Deepika Padukone and Disha Patani, the film draws inspiration from Hindu mythology and ushers in the ambitious Kalki Cinematic Universe. Set in a post-apocalyptic world in the year 2898 AD, the story follows a group on an adventurous mission to rescue the unborn child of laboratory subject SUM-80, who is destined to be Kalki.
The project was announced in February 2020 under the working title Project K. After a delay due to the Covid-19 pandemic, filming began in July 2021, and spanned three years with extensive shoots in Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad. Construction ended in late May 2024. The official title was unveiled in July 2023. The film’s music is composed by Santosh Narayanan, with stunning visuals by Serbian cinematographer Djordje Stojiljkovic and editing by Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao.

Kalki 2898 AD begins with the iconic Kurukshetra battle, where Lord Krishna punishes Ashwathama for killing Uttara’s unborn child. He condemns Ashwathama to immortality and takes away his powerful gem, which gave him immense power.
Fast forward several years, and the world is now ruled by the supreme Yaksin, portrayed by Kamal Haasan. Yaksin’s primary objective is to find a fertile woman for his mysterious Project K. Fertile women are given privileges, such as better food, while everyone else is considered disposable.
Enter Bhairav (Prabhas), a bounty hunter whose sole mission is to infiltrate a Yaksha’s compound. Along with his partner Roxy (played by Disha Patani in a stunning cameo), Bhairav manages to enter the complex for a few moments. Together, they savor the freedom, enjoying the beach and champagne. But their escape time is cut short when they are caught and thrown out.
The film also introduces rebels from the hidden village of Shambhala, who are hunted by bounty hunters. The captured boy is key to helping Bhairav break into the complex.
There are many surprise cameos throughout the film including Mrinal Thakur, SS Rajamouli, Ram Gopal Varma, Vijay Devarakonda and Dulquer Salmaan.
Inside the complex, we meet Deepika Padukone as SUM 80, later known as Sumathi. She serves fertile women but secretly carries her own child, surviving for 150 days during Yaxin’s reign. Despite her efforts to save her unborn child, she is discovered when Commander Manas tries to extract the serum from her. However, with the help of a spy from Shambhala, Suma manages to walk through the fire and escape unscathed.
Sumati is eventually revealed to be the mother of Kalki, the 10th avatar of Vishnu.
In the twist, a young boy flees the complex, taking a powerful gem with him. He meets Ashwatthama, who realizes that a savior is about to be born. With the gem returning to him, Ashwathama regains his powers and embarks on a mission to protect Sumathi. But he has to face a fierce battle with Bhairav who stands in his way.
This thrilling story blends ancient mythology with futuristic elements, where gods, warriors and rebels clash in a battle that will shape the future of the world.
