The story revolves around Hanumant Babu Kendra, a common man from Nagderwadi village in Nanded, who is facing severe drought. Water follows his journey to make his village water-independent while dealing with local gangsters, a budding romance, and other obstacles. When Hanuman’s marriage proposal to Suvarna is rejected because of the village’s water crisis, he promises her, “I will marry you when I solve the water problem here. Will you wait for me?” This inspiring story unfolds, showing how determination and love can inspire a person to change their world.

The trailer of Joju George’s Paani starts strong, showing impressive world-building and character introductions that hint at a captivating action film. Unfortunately, the story quickly loses its momentum, falling into familiar and clichéd scenarios that diminish its initial promise.
The Don and Siju characters fall into common stereotypes, where the villains are portrayed as completely evil. After Don touches Gauri inappropriately, Giri steps in to defend her, leading to a confrontation. Humiliated, Don and Siju retaliate, resulting in an attack on Gauri. This choice seems designed to provoke anger in the audience, but it takes the film from a crime action story to a typical revenge story, where men fight for a woman’s ‘respect’.
While the depiction of violence is not as extreme as in movies like Wetten or Christopher, the film uses these shocking moments to distract from its lack of depth, making it feel less impressive overall.
