Bagheera Movie Review
What sets this dull thriller apart is Ganesan Sekar’s catchy background score, which brings even the scariest moments to life. In a memorable scene, Bagheera, chasing the girl he wants to kill, accidentally turns on the gramophone. The mood changes as she starts dancing to “Pattukottai Ammalu” from Rajinikanth’s Ranga (1982) while he tries to catch her.
There are parts that try to solve his troubled thoughts – one suggests that men can be worse than women, and another uses the common phrase, “Not all girls are the same.” However, this seems like a way to push the story forward. Despite the problems with the script, Prabhu Deva gives a strong performance, showing a range of emotions while switching between good and bad. Unfortunately, his efforts went unnoticed due to a weak story. The film claims to have seven heroines, but surprisingly the story doesn’t have much female power (Amayra Dastur and Sakshi Aggarwal manage to give decent performances considering their limited screen time). Like many films of this genre, Bagheera ends predictably. But predictability is not the biggest problem in a film as confusing and problematic as Bagheera.
Rating: 3.3/5
